Joggers, Cargos and Jeans: What Each Is Actually For
They are not interchangeable, and buying all three of one type is the usual mistake.

An adjustable inner band — a button-and-elastic strip inside the waistband — takes in two to three inches. It is the difference between jeans that fit for a term and jeans that fit for three weeks.
Knees Are Where Boys Bottoms Die
Not the seat, not the hem. Knees go first, and they go through a specific sequence: the fabric thins, then a hole opens on one side only, usually the dominant knee.
Double-layer knee panels delay that by a season or more. On joggers, a heavier knit through the knee does the same job without the visible panel.
Shorts to Trousers and Back
Most families run both from roughly April to October, because a child who is warm at 8am is not at 3pm. Buying shorts one size up at the end of a summer means they fit at the start of the next one — shorts are the easiest garment to size ahead on, since the length is forgiving.
Sizing Across 4 to 14
The change happens around 10. Below that, boys grow roughly evenly and a size up works. From 10 to 14, length runs ahead of width, so inseam is what to check — a pair that fits the waist but stops above the ankle will not get worn regardless of how well it fits everywhere else.
