Family in matching cream dog print Christmas pajamas relaxing on a bed with their dog wearing only a matching bandana

Best Family Christmas Pajamas with Dogs & Special Features 2026

This guide has moved to a new page. Read the latest version

The short answer

If you want the dog in the family set this season, expect to buy a bandana. Where PatPat's family Christmas listings name the pet piece, it is nearly always a bandana or a pet towel, and no listing we read describes a full pajama set for a dog. Once you know that, the decision gets easier: choose a print the people can all wear, confirm the pet size is in stock for that print, then settle fabric and extras.

If you want Where we would start Check this first
Dogs on the pajamas and a bandana on the dog Festive Dog print in cream Men's sizes start at M
A dog print with a plainer adult top Festive Dog print in red Baby comes in 9-12M only
Cotton for the people Christmas tree print in black cotton No pet size in stock when we read it
Bamboo viscose for the people Listings whose fabric line says bamboo viscose Most had no pet size in stock
Something funny Glow-in-the-dark Santa hat plaid set L(Pets) only, and it is hand wash

These are editorial picks based on who each set covers, what it is made of and which pet sizes it carries. We sell all of them, and we did not wear-test them. If no one in your house has a strong view on dogs or fabric, start with how to choose by family structure, or browse our christmas pajamas family range with the size filter on.

What the pet piece actually is

The pet piece is a triangle of printed fabric worn at the neck. Many listings describe each size as one pajama set, one romper or one pet bandana, so the dog gets the same print as the family in a much smaller format. It has no legs, sleeves or back panel.

The wording varies. Some listings say "pet bandana," others say "pet towel," and where the photos show the piece, it is the same neck triangle. Others say "pet wrap" or "pet product," or say nothing beyond a pet size in the menu. In those cases, look for the dog in the product photos before you assume anything.

To browse prints that carry a pet piece, start with our dog pajamas collection, then read the pet line on each listing to see what the dog gets and whether a pet size is in stock. If you are picturing a dog in a full four-legged suit, the family Christmas sets are not that product.

Three practical details follow:

  • It is bought like any other family member. Each size goes into the cart separately, so the bandana does not arrive unless you add it.
  • Socks do not apply. Listings that include buffalo plaid socks with the pajama sets exclude the pet size.
  • There are two sizes, and they are not on every print. L(Pets) appears on more sets than S(Pets), so a small dog is often the harder one to match. Measuring and breed fit are in our dog Christmas pajamas size guide.

A bandana is still clothing. Pet apparel is not covered by the US children's sleepwear rules, and the American Kennel Club's advice is never to leave a dog unattended in clothing or accessories. It also warns against anything tight around the neck or chest. For Christmas morning, that means putting it on for the photo and the gifts, then taking it off when the room empties.

Best Family Christmas Pajamas with Dogs

Treat "dog print" and "dog included" as two separate questions, because a listing can answer yes to one and no to the other. A dog print is something people wear. A pet size is what lets the dog join in. The Festive Dog sets in cream and red answer yes to both, which is why we would look at those first. Not every dog-print listing does, and many sets with no dogs on them at all still carry a bandana.

Here is what each set in this guide covered when we read the stock in early November. Sizes sell out one at a time, so treat this as a starting point and confirm on the page.

Set Pet Women Men Kids Baby
Festive Dog, cream S, L S–3XL M–3XL 2Y–12-13Y 3-6M–12-18M
Festive Dog, red S, L S–2XL M–2XL 2Y–12-13Y 9-12M only
Gnome print, white S, L S–3XL M–3XL 2Y–12-13Y 3-6M–12-18M
Festive Cat, multicolor S, L S–2XL M–2XL 2Y–12-13Y 3-6M–12-18M
Penguin, blue S, L S–2XL M–2XL 2Y–4-5Y, 8-9Y 6-9M, 9-12M
Glow Santa hat plaid, black L only S–XL S–2XL 2Y–12-13Y 3-6M–12-18M
Christmas tree cotton, black None S, M, L, 2XL M–2XL 2T–6 3-6M–12-18M

Two rows show why this check matters. The cotton tree set's product photos include a dog in a matching bandana, and the description mentions one, yet no pet size was in stock when we read it. The glow set offers only the larger pet size, which leaves a small terrier out. In both cases the photo tells you what the print can look like, and only the size menu tells you what you can order today.

The cream Festive Dog set has the wider reach of the two dog prints, with 3XL for adults in this print and four baby sizes. The red version suits a family with older kids. Its adult tops carry "DADA CLAUS" and "MAMA CLAUS" wording in the photos, with the dog print on the pants, so it looks less busy on an adult who does not want dogs across the chest.

On timing, it is already November. If you still need a card photo, order now and shoot as soon as the set arrives. If the set is only for Christmas morning, the third week of November is the practical limit. Our guide to what size to order and when has the full countdown and the children's sizing rules.

Best Affordable vs Best Quality Family Christmas Pajamas

Affordable is a sum you can do in five minutes. Quality is harder to judge from a listing, and we would rather show you what can be checked than call anything the best made.

For budget, look at the price per piece and multiply. A family listing's headline price is not what your household will pay, because each person's piece is added separately. Write down every person and the dog, look up the price for each size you need, and add the lines. Do this for two or three prints before deciding, because a set that looks cheap can change once your largest and smallest sizes are in the basket. Count socks only where the listing says they are included.

The bandana is optional, so it is the easiest line to drop. A dog sitting with the family in its everyday collar still reads as part of the picture. Our guide to buying matching family pajamas on a budget covers the bigger savings, such as matching only part of the family.

For quality, read the listing line by line. This is what the sets here say:

  • Fiber by family member. The cream Festive Dog, Festive Cat and Gnome sets list 96% polyester, 4% spandex for baby and kids, and 95% polyester, 5% spandex for women, men and pets. A listing that separates members tells you more than one that gives a single figure.
  • Adult waistband and pockets. The cream Festive Dog and Gnome listings mention an adjustable drawstring and a pocket on adult pants.
  • Neckline. The set can look quite different from one print to the next: round on the cream Festive Dog, collared on the Festive Cat, and a buttoned, Henley-style neck on the Gnome.
  • Children's pieces. Most of these listings state that the kids' and babies' pieces are flame-resistant. US rules for sizes above 9 months through 14 call for flame-resistant garments unless a piece is snug-fitting, an exception that still falls under the general clothing flammability standard, 16 CFR 1610. We do not rank either as safer, and the label tells you which one you have. Do not size up a snug-fitting piece.
  • Care. Most of these are machine wash cold. The glow set says cold hand wash and lay flat to dry, which matters if pajamas in your house go through the regular laundry.

Best Cotton, Bamboo and Soft Family Matching Sets

Choose the fabric for the people, then check the dog, because fabric changes your odds of finding a pet size. This is the pattern we found across the family Christmas listings in early November:

Fabric Choose it when Pet size
Polyester stretch knit You want the widest choice of prints and sizes Most sets have one, often both sizes
Fleece and coral fleece The house runs cold overnight Most sets have one, but check the size
Cotton The family prefers natural fiber next to the skin Only some sets
Bamboo viscose Someone runs warm and wants a thin, smooth knit Few Christmas sets, S(Pets) at most
Satin You want sheen for a dressier photo None in stock when we read them

So if the dog must match, a bamboo or satin set is the hardest route, and a polyester knit or fleece set is the easiest. If fabric matters more than the bandana, buy the fabric and let the dog join in its everyday collar, or in a plain bandana you already own in one of the print's colors.

Read the fabric line, not the title. Start with our bamboo christmas pajamas, pick out the holiday prints, and confirm the composition on each listing, because fabric can differ by set and by family member. Look for a line such as 93% bamboo viscose, 7% spandex. The FTC's labeling guidance is that fabric made this way should be described as rayon or viscose made from bamboo, so that is the wording to look for.

Cotton has the same catch in children's sizes. The black cotton tree set is 95% cotton, 5% spandex. For its kids' pieces, check the label for flame-resistant or snug-fitting when the set arrives, and do not size up a snug-fitting piece. Its stock is also thin, so some sizes may already be gone, and women's XL was missing when we read it. The Gnome set is the polyester comparison: a stretch knit with adult sizes to 3XL in this print and both pet sizes. Our Christmas pajamas fabric guide goes further on how each fabric behaves.

Funny or Themed Options That Still Match

A funny print still has to work for the least enthusiastic adult and carry your dog's size, so check those two things before you fall for the joke.

Glow in the dark. The Santa hat plaid set has a black top with "Merry Christmas" wording and buffalo plaid pants, and the listing says to let the clothes absorb natural light before wearing them in the dark. We would save it for kids' bedtime on Christmas Eve. Its limits are L(Pets) only, women's sizes that stopped at XL when we read it, and hand washing. Other glow prints carry different pet sizes, so if you have a small dog, keep looking rather than giving up on the idea.

Cats on the family, bandana on the dog. A family in cat print with a dog in a cat-print bandana is a joke everyone gets at once, and the Festive Cat listing carries both pet sizes. It is a busy, many-colored print, so it suits a family happy to look loud in the photo.

Penguins. The blue penguin set is a gentler option and looks different from the usual red and green. Stock is thin, so some sizes may already be gone, and kids' sizes stopped at 8-9Y, with 6-7Y already gone, when we read it.

Dinosaurs. For a real costume feel, we also carry a hooded, front-zip dinosaur print onesie in family sizes, with a pet bandana in L(Pets) only. Try it on the adults before the morning itself, since a hood and a zip are not to everyone's taste.

Before you commit, picture the print on your dog. A busy motif shrunk onto a bandana can disappear against a dark or heavily marked coat, so choose a background clearly lighter or darker than the fur. Our three-color method for family photos covers the rest of the group.

Frequently asked questions

Do PatPat family Christmas pajamas come with pajamas for the dog? No listing we read describes a full pajama set for a dog. Where a listing names the pet piece, it is nearly always a bandana or pet towel, added to the cart as its own item.

Is a dog print the same as a pet size? No. A dog print is a design people wear, and a pet size is a separate option in the size menu, so check for both.

What size bandana does my dog need? Pet pieces come in S(Pets) and L(Pets), and some prints carry only one. Use the measurements in our dog size guide, not the size your dog wears from another brand.

Can my dog sleep in the bandana? We would not leave it on. The American Kennel Club advises never leaving a dog unattended in clothing or accessories, so take it off before bed.

Are there bamboo family Christmas pajamas with a matching dog bandana? Very few when we checked, and those carried S(Pets) at most. Confirm that the fabric line says bamboo viscose and that the pet size is in stock.

Do the socks come with the bandana? No. Listings that include buffalo plaid socks exclude the pet size, and not every set includes socks.

How do I keep the cost down when the dog is included? Add up the price of each person's size, then add the bandana as a separate line. If the total is too high, drop the bandana first and let the dog join in its everyday collar.
