The short answer
The cute christmas pajamas that work in a family photo have a large motif you can recognize from across the room and come in every size your group needs. So the ten ideas below are judged on two things: who each one suits, and how it reads through a phone camera at group distance. We sell these pajamas, so treat the picks as our editorial opinion, based on listing photos and size stock we read in early November 2026.
If you already know your family's sticking point, start here.
| Who is in your photo | Try | Because |
|---|---|---|
| A baby and an adult in 3XL | Idea 2 or idea 4 | Both had baby sizes and women's and men's 3XL in stock |
| A slim dad who wears a men's S | Idea 2 or idea 8 | The only two family sets in this list with a men's S |
| Three generations | Idea 6 | The slogan tops give grandparents and parents their own role |
| Anyone who wants to keep wearing them in January | Idea 5 | A winter woodland print with no Santa in sight |
| A toddler who needs a close-fitting set | Idea 9 | A snug-fitting modal set, paired with solid colors on the adults |
| A dog in the picture | Idea 10 | The pet piece is a bandana, and some prints stock only the large one |
One timing note, since it is already November. We would have ordered in October for a holiday card photo, so if you still want one, order now and shoot as soon as the set arrives. For Christmas morning alone, the third week of November is the latest we would leave it.
Why Gingerbread Prints Are the Cutest Christmas Pajamas This Year
That heading is our judgment, not a trend figure, and the reason is practical: a gingerbread figure is a simple, warm brown shape that stays recognizable at group distance and looks just as at home on a dad as on a toddler. When you shop matching family christmas pajamas, that matters more than how clever a print looks up close on one model. The three versions below differ mainly in background color.
1. Gingerbread and holiday mugs on bright aqua
This is the loudest idea on the list, with a collared cardigan neckline, and it suits a family of confident kids from 2Y to 8-9Y who enjoy being looked at. In a photo the aqua separates everyone from a white kitchen or a cream sofa, but check the baby question first: a baby wears the print in the listing photo, yet we found no baby sizes in stock.
2. Gingerbread and candy canes on pale blue with red cuffs
This is the safest choice for a big or hard-to-fit group, because it had the widest size run we read: baby 3-6M, kids to 12-13Y, and women's and men's S through 3XL. The pale background is quiet, so the red neckline and cuffs do the work of marking out each person in the frame.
3. Gingerbread houses on deep green
Choose this one if you want gingerbread that feels a little more grown-up, since the houses are less childlike than a smiling cookie and the classic collar looks tidier on adults. Deep green can melt into a real tree behind you, so shoot it against a pale sofa or a light wall and keep the tree off to one side.

Beyond Gingerbread: Trees, Antlers, Slogans and Lights
Not every family wants a cookie on the sleeve. These four are cute holiday pjs for other tastes.
4. Christmas trees and gnomes with a classic collar
This is the retro idea: a white collared set with gnome and tree motifs, plus buffalo plaid socks with each pajama set, so feet in the photo are already sorted. It suits families who like a traditional look and need range, from baby 3-6M to women's and men's 3XL. White is unforgiving, so keep the whole group in pieces from this one set instead of mixing it with white you already own.
5. A winter woodland of antlered deer, bears and trees
If you came looking for reindeer, this is the closest idea here, and it suits parents who dislike obvious Christmas clothes, since the beige woodland print would still make sense in January. It reads soft and calm next to a decorated tree, so give the group some contrast with a dark background or a colorful rug. Kids' sizes stopped at 8-9Y when we read it, which rules it out for kids above that size.
6. Retro Mama Bear and Papa Bear slogan tops
Grandparents can join in without negotiating, because the listing photos show two generations of adults in the same Mama Bear and Papa Bear tops while the kids wear the all-over bear print. The gold lettering is the most readable element of any idea here, even in a small phone photo, but a baby in the same dark print can get lost against a black top, so seat the baby in front of you instead of holding them close. Baby sizes started at 6-9M.
7. Rows of Christmas lights on white
This one suits couples and families with kids 2Y to 8-9Y, because we found no baby sizes and only the large pet size in stock. The rows of bulbs line up like cheerful stripes, which gives taller adults a clean graphic look in a full-length shot. It also had the thinnest overall stock of our family picks, so expect that some sizes may already be gone.

Dog-themed and glow-in-the-dark prints did not make this list. They get their own comparison in family Christmas pajamas with dogs, and if you are still deciding by family structure instead of by print, begin with best family Christmas pajamas.
Modal and Bamboo: Cute and Cozy Fabrics for Toddlers
For a toddler, decide on the fabric route first and the print second. The family sets in this article are polyester or polyester blends, while the modal and bamboo viscose sets are mostly sold as kids-only pieces that fit close to the body. So you are often choosing between exact matching and a fabric you prefer for that one child.
8. A snowman raglan set when the toddler has to match
This suits families who want every person in the same print, because the set runs from baby 3-6M to kids 12-13Y and its listing says the kids' and baby pieces are flame-resistant. The navy sleeves and white front with a large snowman and "Merry Christmas" lettering give a clear shape in a group photo, and it is the other family set here with a men's S.
9. A red zigzag modal set with solid colors on the adults
Choose this if the fabric comes first: it is 93% modal and 7% spandex, comes in 2T through 12, and carries a Wear Snug-fitting, Not Flame Resistant notice in its listing. There is no adult version, so dress the adults in plain red or green taken from the print, which photographs as coordinated without anyone needing a matching size. The Christmas / Halloween label on the listing also gives it a second season.
Bamboo viscose follows the same logic. Our kids' bamboo sets are rayon made from bamboo with some spandex, and most are single pieces rather than family sets. Some carry a CloudSoft or BambooCloud tag, which are PatPat's own fabric line names and not outside certifications, so read the composition on each listing. The route, label and age-by-age detail are in best kids Christmas pajamas.
Siblings who each want their own color have a third option. The mug-and-Santa family set below offers Girl and Boy sizes from 2Y to 8-9Y, and its photos show pink on the girl and mom and navy on dad, so check the color shown for each option.

Don't Forget the Dog: Cute Matching Christmas PJs for Pets
The pet piece is a bandana, not a pajama set. Listings also call it a pet towel or a dog scarf, and it is what the dog wears in the product photos, so picture a tied neck piece in the family's print. That makes this the easiest way to bring a pet into the picture: a dog that would refuse a full outfit may well tolerate a bandana for a few frames.
10. A bandana in the family print, or in the contrast color
Any family with a dog can do this, and the prettiest version we saw is on the mug-and-Santa set, where a navy bandana on the dog against pink pajamas ties the group's two colors together. That listing has a single color option, so you can't pick the bandana's color separately. Look at it in the photos and think about the coat: a pale bandana can vanish on a cream dog while a dark one stands out, and the opposite holds for a black dog. Check the pet size before you commit, because the lights, snowman and gingerbread house prints above stocked only L(Pets) when we read them.
Measuring belongs in the dog Christmas pajama size guide, which also covers cats, many of which sit close to or below the bottom of the small pet size. Keep the bandana on for the photo and take it off afterward, since pet apparel is not covered by children's sleepwear rules and the American Kennel Club advises never leaving a dressed dog unattended. Try it on a day or two early, with treats, so the photo isn't the first time.
Will Everyone Fit? Family Size Coverage by Idea
Pick from the hardest person to fit. This is what we read as in stock in early November 2026, and individual sizes will keep selling out.
| Idea | Baby | Kids | Women | Men | Pets |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Gingerbread and mugs | None | 2Y to 8-9Y | S to 2XL | M to 2XL | S, L |
| 2. Gingerbread and candy canes | 3-6M to 12-18M | 2Y to 12-13Y | S to 3XL | S to 3XL | S, L |
| 3. Gingerbread houses | 3-6M to 12-18M | 2Y to 12-13Y | S to 2XL | M to 3XL | L |
| 4. Trees and gnomes | 3-6M to 12-18M | 2Y to 12-13Y | S to 3XL | M to 3XL | S, L |
| 5. Winter woodland | 3-6M to 12-18M | 2Y to 8-9Y | S to 2XL | M to 2XL | S, L |
| 6. Mama and Papa Bear | 6-9M to 12-18M | 2Y to 12-13Y | S to 3XL | M to 3XL | S, L |
| 7. Christmas lights | None | 2Y to 8-9Y | S to 2XL | M to 3XL | L |
| 8. Snowman raglan | 3-6M to 12-18M | 2Y to 12-13Y | S to 2XL | S to 2XL | L |
| 9. Zigzag modal | None | 2T to 12 | None | None | None |
| Mug and Santa (ideas 9 and 10) | None | 2Y to 8-9Y | S to 2XL | M to 2XL | S, L |
Three patterns stand out. Only ideas 2 and 8 go below a men's M, and none of these sets stocked a 4XL, which exists only on a small number of selected prints elsewhere in the range. Kids past 8-9Y lose ideas 1, 5 and 7, plus the mug-and-Santa set. And each piece is added to the cart separately, so nothing guarantees that a whole family's sizes stay available until you order them together.
To test your own list against live stock, use the Christmas pajamas size finder. Sizing rules and order dates are in what size to order and when, and the color logic behind a group photo is in the three-color method.
Comfort and Safety Before the Photo
A cute print still has to suit the child wearing it, and two label rules decide that. Under US rules, children's sleepwear above 9 months through size 14 has to be flame resistant unless it is snug-fitting, which CPSC treats as an exception that still falls under the general clothing flammability standard, 16 CFR 1610. We do not rank either as safer, so read the label to see which one you have. Snug-fitting styles should never be bought large to look roomier in a picture, since the close fit is how they comply. Adult pajamas fall outside these children's rules.
Keep the baby's photo separate from the baby's sleep. The AAP's safe sleep guidance calls for babies to sleep on their backs with no pillows, blankets or other soft items in the crib.
For comfort, every family set in this list is polyester, mostly with some spandex for stretch. If your family wants cotton or bamboo viscose instead, narrow by fabric first with the fabric guide and accept that your print options will be fewer.
Frequently asked questions
What are the cutest Christmas pajamas for a family photo? Choose large, simple motifs such as gingerbread, gnomes or snowmen, because small dense prints are harder to read at group distance. Then confirm the print comes in everyone's size.
Do family Christmas pajamas come with an outfit for the dog? Not automatically: where a print has a pet size, it is an add-on piece, usually a bandana, sometimes listed as a pet towel or dog scarf, and not a full pajama set. Check whether the print stocks S(Pets), L(Pets) or both.
Which prints work best with a baby in the picture? The pale blue gingerbread, gingerbread house, gnome, woodland and snowman sets had baby sizes from 3-6M when we read them, and the Mama Bear set started at 6-9M. Very few family prints across the range reach down to 0-3M.
Are modal or bamboo pajamas available in matching family sets? The zigzag modal set we picked is kids-only, so pair it with solid colors on the adults. Family sets in bamboo viscose exist but are a small share of the range, so read each listing's composition.
Can adults wear these prints in plus sizes? The pale blue gingerbread, gnome and Mama Bear sets had women's and men's 3XL when we read them. 4XL exists only on a few selected prints, and none of those three is one.
Is it too late to order for Christmas? For Christmas morning, order by the third week of November and expect more missing sizes as time goes on. For a holiday card, order now and photograph the set as soon as it arrives.
