Christmas pajamas get worn differently from ordinary ones. They are slept in, photographed in, and worn all morning around a warm house with the heating on — so the fabric matters more than the print does, and it is the thing people think about last.

This page sets out every fabric we make Christmas pajamas in, what each one actually feels like, who it suits, and how to wash it so it survives to next December. Where we publish a fibre percentage, it is printed below; where we only publish a hand-feel description, this page says so rather than guessing.

What This Page Is For

Three decisions that are easier once you know the fabric.

Pick for the person who overheats

The single most common complaint about holiday pajamas is waking up too warm. Fabric decides that, not thickness alone — a breathable bamboo viscose knit and a brushed fleece behave completely differently in a heated bedroom, and the right answer depends on who is wearing it.

Buy for a baby or a child with sensitive skin

Parents shopping for the youngest members usually want to know the fibre, not the feel. A handful of our Christmas sets print an exact split on the label — bamboo viscose and cotton blends — and this page lists which ones those are, alongside the ones that only describe the hand-feel.

Wash it correctly the first time

Every fabric here is machine washable, but they do not all dry the same way. Satin-feel sets are line dry; the knits tumble dry low. One hot cycle is how a set that should last three Christmases lasts one.

Soft stretch knit

The house style110 sets · from $5.99 · 94 in the main collection
On the label: Not published as a percentage

How it feels

A mid-weight knit with real stretch in it. Soft-touch rather than brushed, so it reads as comfortable at room temperature without being a warm fabric in its own right — the kind of thing you can wear all morning indoors without overheating.

Who it suits

The default choice, and the right one for most households. It carries print well, which is why the widest range of designs sits here, and it holds its shape through repeated washing better than a loose-woven fabric would.

How to wash it

Machine wash cold, tumble dry low. No bleach, no dryer sheets — softener build-up is what flattens a stretch knit over a season.

Worth being straight about: Our label for these sets describes the hand-feel rather than the fibre split, so we are not going to quote a percentage here that isn't on the label. If exact fibre content is what you need, a few of the bamboo and cotton sets below do publish theirs.

Bamboo viscose

The breathable one10 sets · from $5.99 · 7 in the main collection
On the label: Mostly our own BambooCloud™ bamboo viscose knit; the sets that state a split are 93% bamboo fibre with 7% spandex in the body and 95/5 in the trim

How it feels

Silky-soft and noticeably cool to the touch when you first put it on, with natural stretch. It moves air rather than trapping it, which is why it does not feel clammy in a heated room.

Who it suits

Anyone who sleeps hot, and the babies and small children in a matching set — they cannot kick off a layer themselves. If someone in your household wakes up damp in cotton pajamas, start here rather than with a fleece.

How to wash it

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, tumble dry low. Do not bleach; iron on low only if you must. Bamboo viscose is a soft fibre and hot washing is what pills it.

Worth being straight about: Two of these sets print an exact fibre split on the label; the rest are labelled BambooCloud™ bamboo viscose knit without a percentage, so that is what this page reports for them.

Cozy fleece knit

The warm one6 sets · from $7.99 · 6 in the main collection
On the label: Not published as a percentage

How it feels

Brushed on both sides, so it traps warmth against the skin while staying light in the hand. Warmer than everything else on this page by a clear margin, and the only fabric here that is genuinely a cold-house fabric.

Who it suits

Draughty houses, Christmas mornings on a cold floor, and anyone who sleeps cold. Not the choice for a warm bedroom or for a baby who already runs hot.

How to wash it

Machine wash cold, tumble dry low. No bleach, no dryer sheets. Wash fleece with like fabrics — it picks up lint from towels readily.

Satin-feel

The photogenic one4 sets · from $6.99 · 4 in the main collection
On the label: Not published as a percentage

How it feels

Smooth, lightweight and fluid, gliding against the skin rather than sitting on it. It catches the light, which is exactly why it photographs the way it does.

Who it suits

Family photos and Christmas Eve rather than a full night's sleep in January. Cooler than the knits, so pair it with a warm room.

How to wash it

Machine wash cold and line dry — this is the one fabric here that should not go in the dryer. No bleach and no fabric softener.

Worth being straight about: “Satin” here describes the weave and finish, not silk. None of our Christmas pajamas are made of silk.

Cotton

The familiar one1 sets · from $5.99 · 1 in the main collection
On the label: 95% cotton with 5% spandex in the body, 90% cotton with 10% spandex in the trim

How it feels

Exactly what you expect cotton to feel like — matte, breathable, a little more structured than the viscose knits, and softening with every wash rather than after one.

Who it suits

Anyone who simply prefers a cotton hand-feel over a viscose one. It is the smallest group in our Christmas range, so treat it as a specific choice rather than a category to browse.

How to wash it

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, tumble dry low, do not bleach. Cotton blends shrink slightly on a hot wash — keep it cold and this will not happen.

A Closer Look at the Bamboo Sets

Bamboo viscose is the fabric people specifically search for, and it is worth explaining why. The fibre is spun into a knit that sits cool against the skin and moves moisture away rather than holding it — the practical effect being that a child who normally wakes up damp in cotton pajamas usually doesn't in these. It is also the softest fabric in our Christmas range by a clear margin, which matters for babies and for anyone with reactive skin.

Most of these sets carry our own BambooCloud™ bamboo viscose knit. Two of them go further and print the split on the label — 93% bamboo fibre with 7% spandex in the body and 95/5 in the trim. If fibre content is something you check before buying, those are the ones that state it outright.

The trade-off is warmth. Bamboo viscose is breathable rather than insulating, so in a cold house it will feel cooler than a fleece set at the same thickness. For a draughty bedroom on Christmas Eve, the fleece sets are the better answer — and for most centrally heated homes, the bamboo is.

Worth knowing before you go looking: our wider bamboo range is much larger than the Christmas part of it. Plenty of bamboo pajamas in the shop are everyday or dual-season designs rather than Christmas prints, so this page counts only the ones that are actually Christmas sets.

Washing and Care, by Fabric

The care instructions below are the ones printed on each set's label. The only real divergence is drying.

Three rules cover almost everything on this page: wash cold, dry low, skip the softener. Cold water protects the print and stops the cotton blends shrinking; a low tumble keeps the elastane in the knits from going slack; fabric softener and dryer sheets coat a stretch knit and flatten the hand-feel a season early.

The exception worth remembering is the satin-feel sets — those are line dry, not tumble dry. And if you are washing a fleece set, run it with like fabrics rather than with towels, which it will collect lint from.

One more thing worth getting right before you order: how much room to leave. A knit with stretch in it and a brushed fleece do not fit the same way at the same size, so it is worth reading the size charts against the actual body measurements rather than ordering your usual letter. The video library is also useful here — seeing a set worn tells you more about how a fabric drapes than any description can.

Fabric and Care Questions

What is the warmest Christmas pajama fabric you make?

The cozy fleece knit, and it is not close. It is brushed on both sides so it holds warmth against the skin, while everything else in the range is designed to breathe. If your house is cold on Christmas morning, that is the fabric to pick; if your bedroom is warm, it will be too much.

Are bamboo pajamas actually cooler than cotton?

In practice, yes. Bamboo viscose moves air and moisture rather than holding them, so it sits cool against the skin and stays that way. Cotton is breathable too but holds moisture longer, which is what makes a child feel damp rather than just warm. For a hot sleeper, the bamboo sets are the better choice.

What are your Christmas pajamas actually made of?

It varies by set, and the answer is on each product page. A few state an exact fibre split on the label — 93% bamboo fibre with 7% spandex, or 95% cotton with 5% spandex. The largest group by far is a soft stretch knit whose label describes the hand-feel rather than the fibre content, and our BambooCloud™ sets are labelled as bamboo viscose knit without a percentage. Where a label doesn't give a number, this page says so instead of guessing at one.

Which fabric is best for a baby?

Bamboo viscose, for two reasons: it is the softest thing we make and it breathes, which matters when a baby cannot kick off a layer themselves. In a matching set every piece is cut in the same fabric, so choosing a bamboo set covers the baby and everyone else at once. Avoid putting a baby in the fleece sets unless the room is genuinely cold — those are the warmest thing on this page.

Do these shrink in the wash?

Not if you wash cold. The cotton blends are the only fabric here with meaningful shrinkage potential and a cold wash prevents it. The knits and bamboo viscose are stable; what damages those is heat in the dryer rather than in the wash, so keep the tumble on low.

Can I put them in the dryer?

Everything except the satin-feel sets, which should be line dried. The rest tumble dry on low. Avoid dryer sheets across the whole range — they leave a coating that dulls a stretch knit and reduces how well bamboo viscose breathes.

Is the satin real silk?

No. “Satin” describes the smooth, light-catching finish, not the fibre. None of our Christmas pajamas are made from silk. The satin-feel sets are chosen for how they photograph and how they glide, and they are priced accordingly.

Do all the sizes in one set come in the same fabric?

Yes. A matching set is cut in one fabric across every family member, so the adult, child, baby and pet pieces of the same set all feel the same. Sizes and measurements for each of those pieces are in the size chart guide.

Know the fabric you want? Two things left — check your family's sizes against live stock, and pick the print.
