Best Place to Buy Family Christmas Pajamas: What to Look For in Matching Sets

The short answer

We sell family Christmas pajamas, so we have a stake in how this question gets answered. Treat what follows as a seller’s opinion and use the checks to test us along with everyone else. Our view: no store is the best place for every family. The right one is the store that has every person’s size in one design today, on return terms you can live with.

What you need Seller to try first The reason
You want to return in person, or you are unsure of sizes A large retailer with stores near you A store return is hard for an online-only seller to match
Baby to grandparent in one design, plus a pet piece A family-matching specialist, which is what PatPat is The whole size run usually sits on one listing, so gaps are quick to spot
You want an unusual print and accept more checking A marketplace Wide choice, but sizing and return terms change from seller to seller
Someone needs a 4XL, or wants true flannel Compare widely before you buy from us 4XL is rare in our range, and we do not sell flannel in these sets

It is already November, so the usual October window for a card photo has passed. If you still need one, order now. If the pajamas are only for Christmas morning, the third week of November is the practical limit.

What makes the best place to buy family Christmas pajamas

Four things decide it, and you can check all of them yourself in a few minutes without relying on anyone’s list, ours included.

Same-design coverage. A store can carry plenty of matching Christmas pajamas and still fail your family if the design stops at a children’s 10 or an adult XL. Count your people, then look for women’s, men’s, kids’, baby and pet options on one design. “Family set” in a title proves nothing. The member options do.

Piece-by-piece ordering. You want to add exactly the people you need, and leave out anyone who is sitting this year out. The downside is that each size sells out on its own, so a design can look available while your one size is gone.

Size transparency. Look for a published chart with body measurements, and sizes that show as out of stock before you reach checkout. A chart that only lists letters tells you very little, because letters do not line up between brands.

Return terms in writing. Find the policy page before you shop and read four things: how long you have, what condition the item must be in, whether sale items count, and how an exchange works. We would look hardest at that last one, because a wrong size can break the whole set.

Best place to get matching Christmas pajamas, by type of seller

The real choice is between three kinds of seller. The table describes common patterns as we see them. It is our judgment, not a measurement, and any one store can be better or worse than its type.

Seller type Usually strong on Usually weak on Check first
Large retailers Familiar return routes, sometimes in store. Fast delivery in many areas Family pieces may be split across departments or separate listings, and pet or extended sizes can be missing That every family member’s piece is in stock at the same time, in the same design
Family-matching specialists Long size runs on one listing, often with baby and pet options Online returns only, stricter sale terms, and sizing that can differ from what you are used to The exchange process and whether adult letters run small
Marketplaces The widest choice of prints, and easy comparison Terms and charts vary by seller. Two listings with similar photos may not be the same garment Who actually sells and ships it, and whether all pieces come from that one seller

Whichever you pick, try to buy the whole family from one seller, in one order. Pieces from two sellers can differ in shade and print scale, and that can show in a group photo. Our guide to choosing family Christmas pajamas by household covers how a baby, a plus-size adult or a large group changes what to look at first.

How to compare the best places for matching family Christmas pajamas

Run the same five steps on each store you are considering.

  1. Write the list first. Every person, including the dog, with a chest or height measurement beside each name.
  2. Test your hardest size. Usually that means an extended adult size, a small baby size or a men’s S. Look for it in the design you like, and count how many designs still work.
  3. Put the whole family in the cart. A full cart shows you what the set costs per person and exposes any size that has gone. Multiply the single-piece price by your headcount before comparing stores. The longer version of that sum is in how to buy matching family pajamas without overspending.
  4. Read the return page, not the banner. Ask what happens if one size in the order is wrong, and whether a marked-down item can come back at all.
  5. Look outside the store. The FTC suggests searching a company’s name with the words “complaint” or “scam,” and notes that a credit card gives you the strongest protection if something goes wrong. Do that with our name too.

On delivery, treat stated times as estimates and work back from when you need the set in hand. In the US, the FTC’s order rule says a seller needs a reasonable basis for any shipping time it states, or for shipping within 30 days if it states none. If it cannot ship on time, the seller has to tell you and give you a way to cancel for a refund, though silence on a new date within 30 days counts as agreeing to the delay.

How PatPat measures up on the same checks

Here is how we do on the four checks, read from our own listings and policy pages in early November. Across our non-licensed Christmas family designs, every one has women’s and men’s sizes, nearly all have kids’ sizes, about three in four have baby sizes, and about four in five have a pet option. Each piece is added to the cart on its own, by color, family member and size.

The table shows what that looks like on four current listings. Sizes change daily, so treat this as an example of the check and not a promise.

Design Women Men Kids Baby Pet
Reindeer and Santa, white S–3XL M–3XL 2Y–12-13Y 3-6M–12-18M S, L
Gingerbread, red and green swirl S–3XL M–3XL 2Y–12-13Y 3-6M–12-18M L
Gingerbread, white S–2XL S–2XL 2Y–12-13Y 3-6M–12-18M L
Fair Isle, red S–2XL S–2XL 2Y–12-13Y 0-3M–12-18M L

Notice the trade-off. The two designs that reach 3XL have no men’s S, and only one of the four has a 0-3M. A family with a 3XL dad and a newborn would not find both here, and that is the kind of gap you want to find before you choose a print.

Our Christmas pajamas size finder runs this check for you, showing only the designs where every size you enter is in stock. If you would rather browse, the shorter edit we group under best Christmas pajamas is our own merchandising selection, not an independent ranking.

Shipping, from our shipping policy: processing takes 1–3 days and can run longer in peak season. Delivery is then estimated at 2–5 business days to the contiguous US, 10–16 days to destinations such as Hawaii, Alaska and Puerto Rico, and 7–17 days to Europe. These are estimates, and customs or public holidays can delay them. You get a tracking number by email once the order ships. There is a free-shipping threshold that can vary by region, so check it at checkout. Prices exclude import duties and taxes, which the customer pays where they apply.

Where PatPat falls short

These are the reasons you might buy elsewhere. Most come straight from our refund policy, which is worth reading in full before you order.

  • The policy offers no direct exchange. It says: “The fastest way … is to return the item you have, and once the return is accepted, make a separate purchase for the new item.” On that route you wait for the return to be accepted before buying again, and by then the size you need may have sold out. In a matching set, that can leave one person out.
  • Sale items cannot come back. The policy says: “Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns on sale items or gift cards.” If the price is reduced and you are unsure of a size, assume you cannot send it back, and email us before you order to confirm whether the item counts as a sale item.
  • Returns take steps. You have 30 days from receipt to request a return, and the item must be in the condition you received it, unworn and unused, with tags and original packaging, and you need proof of purchase. You have to email service@patpat.com first, because items sent back without a request are not accepted. A return label follows approval, and the policy does not say who pays for it, so ask when you make the request. We inspect the return, and if the refund is approved, it goes back to the original payment method within 10 business days. Your bank may take longer to post it. We have no stores to walk into.
  • The largest and smallest sizes are thin. The main adult range runs to 2XL. About half of designs reach 3XL, and 4XL exists only on a handful of selected prints. A men’s S appears on only about one design in five, and a 0-3M on very few.
  • Women’s letters run small. Our women’s chest measurements sit about 1.5 to 2 inches below a typical US chart, as compared in does PatPat run small. Your usual letter may be wrong here, and given how returns work, a wrong guess costs more with us than at a store with easy swaps.
  • The fabric range is narrow. Most family sets are a polyester and spandex stretch knit. Cotton, bamboo viscose, satin and fleece appear on far fewer designs, and we have no flannel in these sets. If flannel is the point, we are the wrong store.
  • The pet piece is usually not pajamas. Where a listing has a pet size, it is mostly a bandana, sometimes called a pet towel, and not a full set for the dog. Read that line on the listing. Our dog size guide covers the fit.

If an item arrives defective or wrong, or is damaged, contact us as soon as you receive it. Orders shipped into the EU can be canceled or returned within 14 days without giving a reason, under the same condition rules.

So we are a reasonable choice when your family fits the main size range, you can measure before ordering, and you are comfortable with the return process. We are a weaker choice if you expect to swap sizes, need a 4XL, or would rather return something in person.

Tips for buying the best quality matching Christmas pajamas online

You cannot feel fabric through a screen, so judge quality from what a listing can actually tell you.

  • Read the composition line, not the fabric name. A name like our own CloudSoft is a brand line and not a certification, and it appears on polyester, cotton and bamboo viscose styles alike. The percentages tell you what you are buying.
  • Be careful with bamboo wording. The accurate description is “bamboo viscose” or “rayon made from bamboo.” If the title says bamboo, check that the composition agrees.
  • Look at the piece each person will wear. A group photo flatters every garment. Find the shots of the individual adult, child and baby pieces, since a print can look very different at each size.
  • Check what one size includes. On many of our listings, one size means a top and bottom, a romper, or a pet bandana, and some sets add socks.
  • Read the children’s label information. In the US, children’s sleepwear above 9 months and through size 14 is generally either flame resistant or snug-fitting under CPSC rules. Snug-fitting pieces should never be bought large. Our sizing and order-date guide has the full detail.
  • Try everything on before the first wash. Open the parcel the day it arrives and keep the tags on while you check the fit. Our policy only accepts unworn items, and other stores may set similar conditions, so read theirs before you wash anything.
  • Keep the set wearable. If you want the look to last past December, look through our wider range of matching pajamas, which also includes plenty of Christmas styles, for a print not tied to the holiday, or choose a winter print without a dated slogan. Either will get more use than a very seasonal design.
